Amadou &#038; Mariam formaient un duo compl\u00e9mentaire, mais chacun avait son propre go\u00fbt musical avant leur rencontre. Mariam, n\u00e9e \u00e0 Bamako le 15 avril 1958, a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 chanter \u00e0 6 ans, participant aux f\u00eates du voisinage, puis \u00e0 l\u2019Institut des jeunes aveugles d\u00e8s 1973, o\u00f9 elle a cr\u00e9\u00e9 un orchestre et compos\u00e9 toutes les chansons. Elle y a rencontr\u00e9 Amadou, qu\u2019elle a \u00e9pous\u00e9 le 8 juillet 1980.
